With his playful spirit and knack of feeding an insatiable audience, Dean Cherny has been seducing crowds from every corner of the globe for more than 18 years, from the packed beaches of Barcelona to the lush hilltops of Bali, the thundering clubs of Ibiza to the frenetic shores of Mykonos.
Back in his beloved hometown of Melbourne, Dean is a stalwart in the House scene commanding the dance floors of our most notorious events, whether that means steering the 20,000 strong force of Summadayze revellers or containing the heat at ultra-sexy private parties and launches, including the Myer Marquee at the Melbourne Cup Carnival, Melbourne Fashion Festival, Kylie Minogue’s album launch and John Farnham’s 50th birthday.
Dean was also handpicked by George Michael and his management for the coveted support spot on his national tour.
Sharing the decks with industry giants including Frankie Knuckles, Jeremy Healy, DJ Sneak, Boy George, Deep Dish and Basement Jaxx, Dean has played his part in engineering some of the biggest listed events on the scene, including Gatecrasher, Two Tribes and Respect is Burning supporting Dimitri From Paris, Roger Sanchez and Derek Carter.
Where music meets fashion, Dean Cherny is at the centre. As Music Director for both Melbourne and Sydney Fashion Weeks (2000 to 2008), Melbourne Fashion Festival (2000 to 2010), Melbourne Spring Fashion Week (2000 to 2010) and Sydney Fashion Festival (2009), Dean works closely with the country’s top stylists to light up the runway and put the kick into the catwalk with handpicked tunes that leave the toughest crowds electrified and aching for more.
In 2004 Dean formed Dirty Laundry with JJ Styles, a 6 piece ‘hip-house music machine’, comprised of two DJ’s (Dean & JJ), vocalists Lee Lee & Pete ‘Hypes’ and various musicians. For the last 5 years Dirty Laundry has toured the country extensively playing to in excess of 4,000 people a month.
